Our Story

As neurodiverse individuals who were correctly diagnosed later in life, we've both experienced firsthand the sensory challenges and feelings of exclusion in traditional gaming environments. Over and over. Again and again.

These places of intense competition and sensory overload often failed to cater to our needs—or the needs of many in our community—where the potential benefits of gaming were lost to exclusivity and discomfort.

So we dreamt up something different: a haven where the noise quiets down, the lights soften, and where gamers of all skill levels, languages, and identities find a sense of belonging. A place where games are more than just play; they are tools for learning, understanding, and connecting with others.

Samantha Maxwell, Leader in Educational Gaming

My background in educational technology and twelve years of teaching informs the ethos at Deckbox. Holding two master's degrees focused on teaching and learning, I am passionate about integrating play with learning, believing firmly that the two should be forever intertwined. My linguistic research into player-to-player communication in complex game spaces guides our approach to making gaming accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Daniel MacGregor, Architect of Gaming Experiences

I orchestrate the day-to-day ambiance and oversee our curated offerings, ensuring that every element contributes to an enriching gaming adventure. As a seasoned storyteller, I thrive on crafting enthralling narratives and immersive experiences that captivate our guests. Whether I'm weaving complex tales in a Dungeons & Dragons campaign or selecting the perfect gaming artifacts for our collection, my goal is to engage every player’s imagination and ensure they leave Deckbox enchanted, valued, and looking forward to their next adventure.

Deckbox was born out of necessity, passion, and a relentless drive to foster a gaming culture that celebrates diversity, supports accessibility, and cultivates respect and understanding.

We designed Deckbox to be a sanctuary for gamers and a vibrant community hub for workshops, game play, and inclusive events. Our mission is to elevate the gaming experience, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the magic of a good game.

We can’t wait to meet you.
